Taste the Fusion at Ikura

Ikura Sushi Lounge opened it’s doors in Coral Gables and its little hidden gem that everyone should be talking about. Ikura’s menu offers a  fusion of flavors inspired by Caribbean and Peruvian flavors that will have your taste-buds dancing  throughout your meal.  What sets this sushi restaurant apart from the rest is that Ikura offers a fresh take on traditional sushi giving it a fresh twist that will even attract non-sushi eaters.

Chef Chris Rojas, a native of Venezuela, grew up in Little Havena and started cooking from a young age with his father.  Growing up in Miami was the best thing that ever happened to him learning from so many cultures made him the chef he is today and  he incorporates all those Latin flavors into the Japanese sushi art he creates for his guests.

With his mouth- watering creations he is taking guests on a culinary adventure that fuse sweet, savory, and spicy to give you an explosion of flavors in your mouth.

I had a chance to dine at Ikura and have to say there was not a dish that I didn’t like.  Start your meal off with the not so tradition Edamame sprinkled with salt and Chef Rojas secret blend of spices that gives this traditional appetizer a little kick.  A must try  is the crowd favorite the Kanikama Crunch which fuses Kani salas, tobiko and crunchy flakes-  ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!

Follow that with the signature roll Honey Moon that has Ikura Shrimp, Kani-kamaboko, avocado, cream cheese, shaved roasted coconuts, walnut dust, sonali sauce and hachimitsu.  This roll is more on the sweet side and savory side and pairs well with a nice bottle of saki.

If you like it hot, I suggest the Jalapeño Yaita.  A roll with Ikura Shrimp, cream cheese, scallions, Parmesan cheese, spicy mayo and topped with a slice of jalapeño.  For those who don’t like spicy, this roll is still worth the kick, just remove the pepper and the heat is not as high.
